It can be a very difficult to learn that you've been diagnosed with keratoconus. The diagnosis comes as a surprise to most, and the lack of knowledge often causes fear. It is important you learn all that you can about this condition by doing research, asking questions and discussing concerns with your eye doctor as well as others who have keratoconus.

One major challenge for a keratoconic patient, is the cost of care. It can be helpful to try and plan and save for contact lenses or surgical interventions if needed, such as CXL, corneal ring segments (Intacs) or a corneal transplant.

A large portion of the cost of keratoconus care is for specially designed contact lenses. These lenses are more costly than contact lenses for the correction of routine vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.

The positive news about receiving the diagnosis, is that there are treatments available that can help improve the condition and prevent it from getting worse.
